"Time Horizon" at Houghton Hall, Norfolk (5th June, 2024)
A visit today to look at the "Time Horizon" installation by Sir Antony Gormley at Houghton Hall, Norfolk. The exhibition invites visitors to explore the relationship between human figures and the vast landscape. This unique display features 100 life-size sculptures scattered across 300 acres, creating a single horizontal plane that interacts with the natural surroundings – starting with the first figure located just inside the stately home, the rest of the figures over the site are at exactly the same horizontal elevation, leaving some either partially submerged into the earth, and others raised above the ground on pedestals. The installation encourages contemplation on the passage of time and our place within the environment:
My visit was made particularly interesting, having visited Gormley’s comparable work, “Another Place”, on Crosby Beach in Merseyside in March last year Link Here).
