“Another Place” is an artwork by Sir Antony Gormley, located at Crosby Beach in Merseyside. This modern work was installed in 2005 and features 100 cast iron figures spread out over about 2 miles (3km) of the foreshore, stretching almost 1km out to sea.
The 650kg casts are of Gormley himself and are 6ft 2in (189cm) tall. They are shown at different stages, rising out of the sand and all of them look out to sea staring at the horizon in ‘silent expectation’. The work harnesses the ebb and flow of the tide to “explore man’s relationship with nature”. The photos below were taken on 23rd March 2023, at a time when the tide was out:
