Toxteth, March 2023 (Properties in need of regeneration)

Toxteth is a district in Liverpool, England, that has a rich and diverse social history. It was once a thriving port area, home to merchants, sailors, and immigrants from various parts of the world. It was also a centre of radical politics, culture, and activism, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries. Some of the notable figures and movements that emerged from Toxteth include the Chartist leader William Lovett, the poet and abolitionist Edward Rushton, the Liverpool Black community and the 1981 riots, the Merseybeat music scene and the Beatles, and the Toxteth Reservoir and its transformation into a nature reserve. Toxteth's social history reflects the changes and challenges that Liverpool has faced over the years, as well as the resilience and creativity of its people.

Whilst visiting Liverpool in March, 2023, a stroll was taken around some of the more deprived areas of the district clearly in need of regeneration, including Ducie Street. As per an article in the Liverpool Echo (article on the link Here), Ducie Street stands alone as the last derelict street in the Granby area of Toxteth. Standing as a symbol of Liverpool's long history of housing woes, at the time of writing, it now looks like a proposed housing development here may be on the horizon. The development, however, has come under fire as local residents say the area needs houses for families, and not small flats. More photos follow:
